Yorkshire Old Boys;’ Shield Final

At WRCFA HQ, Fleet Lane, Woodlesford

Drighlington 1 Farsley Celtic Juniors 4

HT 1-0

and then 1-0 ht 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-4.

The game was played in ideal conditions and on a super pitch. The excellent changing facilities and the long stand for spectators along one side of the pitch, helped make this a memorable afternoon for all involved. Attendance difficult to assess but I would say at least 200 with the gate receipts producing £240 with concessions included. The Shield Secretary Carol Burnell arranged the production of the programme and the result was a well produced Cup Final magazine. It is appropriate to thank our Shield Secretary Carol for her work behind the scenes in looking after the Shield throughout the year and to Brian Peel to thank him for his total involvement in the cause of the Old Boys Shield.

Farsley kicked into the WRCFA HQ so to speak, and edged the opening minutes, but it was Mark Beal who opened the scoring with a shot from some 10 or so yards out after a poor clearance, and all this left Jordan Wright in the Farsley goal stranded. Both sides experienced difficulty in controlling the ball and the final pass often went astray but an enjoyable, competitive encounter. Farsley shuffled the pack and brought the effective Said Osman over to the right. Crosses from both flanks from Farsley but the Drig defence coped well although a couple of half chances for Farsley failed to trouble the Drighlington keeper Ivan Willis.

In the second half Drighlington started the brighter of the two teams but against the run of play a clearance from Drig was misdirected and Jason Maskill put the elusive Joe Firth through on goal and his shot left the Drighlington keeper without any chance of making a save, This was the catalyst that ensured that Farsley would take charge of midfield and create the goals necessary to win the tie comfortably, although a close range drive from Drighlington, in a goalmouth mêlée, hit a Farsley defender on the line but was unceremoniously cleared. Farsley never wasted a pass under the direction of Craig Farrand and Andy Shields in central midfield. After 65 mins Farsley took the lead. Louis Surtees raced down the right and outpaced the Drig defence. Louis delivered a wonderful cross along the ground that the in-rushing Danny Lyons rifled home; this reflected the state of the game with Jordan Wright having to deal with loose balls into the box in the main. By the 26th minute Farsley killed off the game by adding a third when a long free kick from Craig Farrand was flicked on and ideal for Danny Lyons who beat the keeper coming off his line with a powerful drive. Little pressure from the usually free scoring Drighlington attack with 20 minutes to go Farsley notched their fourth and enabled Danny Lyons to complete his brilliantly executed hat trick. The electric Tez Ncube came into the fray and delighted all and sundry with his speed off the mark and his ability to run with he ball. He won a race with the Drig defence and provided Danny Lyons with a chance that only a player with the finishing expertise of Danny could convert. Farsley hired a coach and a most enjoyable journey back to Leeds beckoned. The final whistle and our spectators seemed happy with their afternoon's entertainment with the Farsley managemetn team of Barry and Adam Thirsk all smiles. Thanks to the officials led by referee Richard Asher who was assisted by Mark Smith and Roger Byrne.

Championship

Thornesians 0 Wortley 4

The goals for Wortley in their 4-0 win at Thornesians came from Callum Bell, Cody Doyle, Jordan Hey and Matthew Hirst from the subs bench. Man of the match for Wortley was Hunter le Blanc. The result only tells half the story. On the Saturday before Christmas Wortley were bottom of the Championship with one point from eight games. They have subsequently gained 24 points from their remaining 14 fixtures in an amzing sequence of resuts that now shows them top of the recent form chart with four victories from six games. The form of leading score Ryan Sharrocks with 15 goals in nine games has been a revelation. Thornes have struggled all season and their defensive frailties have been exposed time and again as they finish bottom with 18 points from 22 matches.

Division 1

Leeds Medics & Dentists III 0 Leeds City OB 4

It has been a long time coming but after thirteen phenomenal victories on the trot Leeds City are now preparing the way for the Championship as Champions and losing finalists of the Leeds District Cup. Hope to hear from Leeds City OB in due course – if they can beak off from celebrating their achievements.

Division 2

Garforth Crusaders 5 Woodkirk Valley 3

Congratulations to Garforth Crusaders who are the Champions after defeating runners up Woodkirk Valley 5-3. 3-2 Half time.
Steven Philips in magnificent form for Crusaders with four goals with Neale Rollings netting once. James Tesseymna, Ryan Thackray and sub Christy Wood on the ball for Woodkirk Valley.

Div 4

Prospect 5 Beeston Jnrs Res 2

Beeston give a good acount of themselves up to half time with the sides tied at two all with Beeston Junrs Res twice ahead.

Second half and Prospect victory increases their second place advantage over the remainder of the Division to 12 points and they added five to their goals tally and have scored 105 during the season. Scorers for Prospect were Nathan Bailey 2, Jordan Farrell 2 and Steve Thwaites. Beeston ae seventh and have won nine and lost eleven and not a draw in sight. They and Dewsbury Res are the only two sides in the YAL not to draw a least one game. Beeston finished seventh yet managed to concede 93 goals. Goals guaranteed and only three teams surrendered more and two of those teams in Division 4.

Thornesians Res 0 Shire Acad III 3

Not spoken with anyone about this game but sorry to see Thornesians play the last match of the season and not score a goal with their campaign points total two. A satis season for Shire who finish eighth. Ali Keetley - 10mins, Mark Ashton - 50mins
and Dave O’Connor - 75 mins. Mom - Tom Norey at right back

Div 5

Huddersfield Amateur Res 3 Norristhorpe Res 6

Hudd Amat Res have at least one game to be considered by the Management Committee for an unplayed fixture although the deduction of a maximum of six points would still not force them to apply for Re-election. Another win for Norristhorpe Res who desevedly finish second in a strong Div 5 this season. Report to follow from Norristhorpe and read Sunday am. Another super review of a Noristhorpe Res fixture by Sgt Wilko. Pleased you enjoyed the season. Dave Holbrook 2 and Al Johnstone on the Amateur Res scoresheet. Tom Boocock, man of the match Sam Everett, Liam Ramsden 3 and Brad Wild for Norristhorpe Res.

Leeds City OB IV 5 Old Batelians Res 5

See report above from Batelians for whom Rob Bordman enjoyed threee assists. Batelians finish fifth. Leeds City OB IV are second to bottom with this point taking them above Centralians. Forget their League position, Leeds City OB IV have provided worthy oppostion each week and trust they have enjoyed 17/18.

Rothwell Res 8 Tyersal Res

Rothwell Res are champions and have been an outstanding side. More to come from them in their reprot on the game. Tyersal needed one point from their last three games to finish third. Not only did they fail to take a point but leaked enough goals to reduce their goal difference below that of St Bedes who are, amazingly, still one point and one place above Tyersal.

Aaron Batley 2, Chris Gordon, Oliver Oldroyd, Josh Price, Sam Reeson, Jack Greaves and George Walker found the back of the net for the Champions.

Div 3

Colton Ath Res 1 North Leeds 2

North Leeds on the up and a goal for Nick Wilson and an OG sufficed to inflict the eighteenth defeat of the season on relegated and second to bottom Colton Ath Res with Colton finishing 14 points away from third to bottom Modernians.

Tingley Ath 2 Horsforth SM Res 3

Tingley finish the season in seventh place. Horsforth are good value and promoted from second position, a mere point behind the winners Shire Academcs Res. Now have a couple of scorers for Horsforth SM Res and they are Joe Clapham and Tom Chadwick.

Premier Division

Alwoodley 1 Grangefield OB 4

The hosts continued their preparation for the WRCFA County Cup Final on the 16th May at WRCFA HQ in Fleet Lane. The side today was effectively their second team as fatigue has finally caught up and created havoc with the regular first team squad. Grangefield continue to impress with their 16 year old man of the match Chris Barr playing a convincing role on the left with this hat trick, a further indication of the fact he is a rare talent. Grant Jackson with the fourth Grangefield goal.

Alwoodley finish fourth whilst Grangefield complete their programme in sixth slot with Geoff Clarkson scoring for Alwoodley as well as being their man of the match.

Prospect move to a new ground and reminisce about their old Woodhall home

Postby neville » Sun May 13, 2018 7:37 am

Today was a fitting tribute to our last competitive game at woodhall as we came from behind twice to beat beeston 5-2 with a goal from Stephen Thwaites and a brace from both Jordon Farrell and Nathan Bailey to see them both finish the season on 17 goals and share the top goal scorer honors. Mom was awarded to tristian innes

Woodhall has served prospect well for over 16 years now and has seen some glorious football of winning leagues and cups to the misery of being subject to an arson attack years ago. It’s gone from barriers and a groundsman to having to be maintained by ourselves for the past 2-3 year. Still after all that it’s been a marvelous home and a blessing to play from

Next season is a massive transition to our new ground, a new manager for Sunday’s and hopefully the start of making our new home just as good as woodhall has been to us

Thanks for the memories woodhall from all at prospect afc

Div 5: Huddersfield Amateurs Res 3 Norristhorpe Res 6

Lovely day to play football as we arrived at a sunny Old Earth to play a mixed Huddersfield Amateurs Res.

We started poorly after conceding an early corner as the loose ball was bundled home to give the home side the lead from a corner. 1-0. Sam Everett then equalised with a low driven shot for us. 1-1. But Amateurs who looked like they had some higher division quality in their side took the lead again from at least 30 yards with an excellent free-kick curled into the top corner. 2-1. We dominated possession for long periods and stand in left back Zach Wood curled in a great cross for Tom Boocock to run in behind the Amateur defence to head home 2-2. We then took the lead as Liam Ramsden tapped in after being set up by Boococks pass from the right, followed closely by Brad Wild running through on the left to slot home 2-4. Amateurs then came back again from a cross headed home as the Amateur's forward just got his head to the ball before our keeper 3-4 HT

Amateurs then came out fired up for the second period and dominated the early part of the half but after that we pretty much dominated possession there after, as we spurned numerous chances to extend our lead. Liam Ramsden then broke that deadlock after being surrounded by 3 opposition defenders in the 18 yard box he managed to turn & find space to fire past the despairing keeper. 3-5. Liam then got his hat trick as a good passing move down our left found him on the edge of the box and he lofted his shot over the Amateurs keeper. 3-6 FT.

Great game from both sides but only enabled by a fabulous official Chris Hepworth, who had a great game. End of another Season, and promotion was beyond my early Season expectations. But we played as a team, won as a team, lost as a team and have had a fabulous time.

Finally congratulations to Rothwell FC on winning Division 5.

Leeds City OB Summary

YAL 1

Leeds Medics & Demtists III 0 vs First Team 4

We knew coming into the game that a 13th consecutive victory would clinch us top spot which was motivation enough in our final match of the season and on a superb day for football we secured a title that I don’t think many in our league will begrudge.

As it was we started the game in fine fashion creating chance after chance but the Medics keeper got in the way of everything we threw at him.

Around the 40 minute mark we recycled a corner and left back (Dave Barrick) crossed for centre back (Mark Dixon) to power home a header to make it 0-1.

We saw the half out with little trouble.

0-1 HT

45 mins away from winning the league was the message at the break. Keep it tight and another goal in our favour and it would be game over.

5 mins into the second period we got it when Adi Chapman’s stinging shot was saved by the keeper but the ball bounced high up into the air and came back behind the keeper and then into the net which gave us a cushion.

We kept going forward and playing our stuff and it became three when Dan Berry converted an Adi Chapman cross at the back post.

Reuben Young put the icing on the cake late on when he made it 4-0.

An absolutely outstanding team effort to win 13 on the bounce and end a superb season with some silverware for the cupboard at Adel.

YAL 5

Fourths 5 v Old Batelians Res 5

Goals galore at Adel as the fourths avoid the bottom of the league.
