Premier Division

Alwoodley v Grangefield OB

This is just one more hurdle for these two teams who are about to stagger over the League finishing line this afternoon. Whatever the outcome Grangefield will remain sixth and hope this turns out to be a game that the players defy the odds. Alwoodley will finish third if they can secure their fourteenth victory of the campaign as they continue to plan for their County Cup Final on Wednesday evening that, as I am sure you will all be aware , will be against reinstated Rawdon OB who have reached the Prem Div of the West Yorks league this season. I have not seen Rawdon play for quite some time but I can remember their being a side with considerable energy and a never say die spirit coupled with class. That last occasion was when they defeated the Bramley Juniors OB second team in what was a county challenge trophy match against several of the Bramley players who now perform for Stanningley OB.

Championship

Thornesians v Wortley

The party is over for Thornes for 2017/18. Wortley - the great survivors. Another 5-5?

Div 1

Leeds Medics & Dentists III v Leeds City OB

Note from Pickles above. Medics III out of danger after fine finish to season. Leeds City OB tested today as the tension must be excruciating as the go for their 13th successive victory to lift the title and the promotion that goes with that success.

Division 2

Garforth Crusaders v Woodkirk Valley

Some will rightly argue that this is the match of the day. The free scoring Woodkirk will battle to the end regardless of the score although they need a victory to ensure they become Kings of Div 2. Crusaders are already top of the Division and, if they keep their heads and draw this fixture, they will win the Crown we thought was at one time guaranteed to come their way.,

Div 3

Colton Ath Res v North Leeds

Colton Res are popular team and they meet a North Leeds team that is beginning to take shape. Nth Leeds victory.

Tingley Ath v Horsforth SM Res

Could be one of the games of the day? A generally improving Tingley Ath entertain second in the table Horsforth SM who will be concentrating on earning yet another victory to take them within a point of Champions Shire Academics Res.

Div 4

Prospect v Beeston Jnrs Res

Can promoted Prospect add another mini-triumph to highlight their finishing 12 points from the team, Gildersome Spurs Res, in third place?

Thornesians Res v Shire Acad III

This is one last push for Thornes as they need to win for the first time this season?

Div 5

Huddersfield amateur Res v Norristhorpe Res

Norristhorpe expected to win to sustain their title challenge? If Rothwell Res succeed then all will be in vain.

Leeds City OB IV v Old Batelians Res

Leeds City OB IV are bottom of the table by one point but can overtake Centralians if they if they are successful, and that means a win or a draw. Batelians are on the up with Rob Bordman an on the field leader.

Rothwell Res v Tyersal Res

If Rothwell conquer Tyersal Res then the Div 5 title is theirs despite setbacks during the last two months of the season. Tyersal Res win and they move up to third. The recent meeting between these sides ended in a goalless draw but to repeat myself, if Norristhorpe succeed then Rothwell must also win.

Shield Final at County HQ in Fleet Lane with two in-form teams

Postby neville » Sat May 12, 2018 8:39 am

Yorkshire Old Boys’ Shield Final

To be played at WRCFA HQ at Fleet Lane Woodlesford.

Kick Off 1400 hrs

Drighlington v Farsley Celtic Juniors DC

First of all, and this is in a competition that first saw the light of day in 1955, we hold our final at the prestigious WRCFA HQ and adds kudos to the competition that has had teams competing, not only from within the boundaries of our League, but also from sides sprinkled throughout Yorkshire with the North Riding League (congratulations on being Inter-League Champions), the Humber Premier League and the East Riding County League providing teams we welcomed back or new sides to the competition this season

The teams are worthy finalists. On the way to the Final, Premier Division Champions Drighlington has beaten Mount St Mary’s 8-1, Beeston Juniors 8-0, Reckitts 3-1 and Grangefield 2-0. The in-form team in the Premier Division Farsley Celtic Juniors, have experienced victories over Alwoodley 4-2,, St Bedes 17-1, Horsforth SM 3-0 and Redcar Newmarket 3-0 with the journey of Farsley possibly the more testing.

What we can add is that we will have a new name on the Shield this season and for Drighlington an opportunity to complete a Prem Div/Shied double. Both teams are playing well and both teams feel they will rise to the Challenge later today. During the season Drighlington has dropped only 10 points whereas Farsley lost eight matches and drew 2 but their recent form has been exceptional as they have been able to add the previously injured leading scorner Danny Lyons to the squad. Both teams are well managed and the game will be played at a high tempo. Harvey Booth, Shane Sowden and Sam Thorpe are a continuing menace when Drig attack. Danny Lyons is the main goal threat from Farsley with 16 goals in 12 games, and that in spite of his serious injury, with skipper Louis Surtees from set plays and Joe Firth in open play, capable finishers.

This could be a superb afternoon and it will be one in which each management team refuses to give way as they plot the downfall of their opponents. 1-1ft, 3-3 aet. Penalties.
