Don't think I did very well last week. I'll blame not knowing division 2 teams yet..

Div 2

Lepton Highlanders v Collegians
Almost top against bottom, logic dictates it'll be comfortable for the away side. 1-5

Morley Town AFC Res v Old Centralians
Good side are Morley, they'll keep moving up the table this season I feel, Cents without a point yet. Should be straight forward home win. 6-1

Wheelwright OB v Leeds City OB
Game of the day in Div.2. Two good sides who like to play football, going to take the cowards way out and sit on the fence, maybe the odd goal will settle it. 2-2

Woodkirk Valley v Colton Athletic
Hard to call, not much between them early in the season, will go for home advantage. 4-3

Division 6

Leeds City OB IV v Leeds Modernians Res - I'm going to predict a Mods comeback here and go with 2-1 to Mods
Old Centralians Res v Middleton Park - Hard to call, i'm going with a 2-2 draw.

Hodgson Cup

Leeds City OB III v Morley Utd - I dare to dream, so i'll go with a 1-0 to us.
Norristhorpe Res v Methley Utd - I'm predicting Norristhorpe here. 3-1
Rothwell Res v Huddersfield Amateur Res - Would put this down as a game of the day in the cup, i'm going with 3-1 to Rothwell.
Shire Academics IV v St Bedes Res - Predicting St Bedes will win this won 3-2
Thornesians III v Woodkirk Valley Res - I think Woodkirk will win this one 2-0

Lepton Highlanders 2v 6 Collegians - Huddersfield derby but Collegians should get this

Morley Town AFC Res 4 v 2 Old Centralians - Both teams seem to play a different side each week, hard being a 3rd team I guess.

Wheelwright OB 1 v 3 Leeds City OB - Good teams but Leeds City seem on a rooll

Woodkirk Valley 4 v 0 Colton Athletic - Woodkirk are underachieving, very good young team

Terrific week last week but one or two results stopped 100% correct forecasts. We are all delighted to read the progress being made at Thornes with the third team.

Hudd Amat Res seem to have mesmerised the super Div 6 prediction team that is using the theory Amateur must win a point soon.

Grangefield's success at YMCA was totally unexpected with the Farsley defeat at Beeston Juniors sufficient to cause readings on the Richter scale.

And so to this week and what a fantastic start. As far as the League programme is conerned I recommend that those involved every week look at the matches in their own division - with no more than four games per division. I will look at the Marflitt and ask someone from Div 2, Div 3 or Div 4 to comment on the Hancock Cup.

Have a great week and weekend.

Terry Marflitt Trophy – Rd 1

Beeston Juniors v Thornesians

YAL is tidying up loose ends this week before the big Cup draw on Monday 31st Oct.

Beeston Juniors and Thornes met in the second round last season with both teams in the Championship and Beeston won by the odd goal of three. Thornesians defeated Calverley Utd and Dewsbury Rangers before meeting Beeston Jnrs with the latter winning against Colton in Round one. Since then Beeston have been promoted whereas Thornes have struggled in the Championship with much hard work need to protect their position. Feel that Beeston, fresh from their victory against Farsley Celtic last week, will expect to advance.

Farsley Celtic Jnrs v Drighlington

“When will we two meet again?” and the answer was “In approximately 12 months”. This is a repeat of last seasons opening round game when eventual Premier Division Champions Farsley defeated Division 1 champions and now promoted Drighlington2-3. Farsley lost their first game last Saturday, as mentioned above, to Beeston Juniors. Drighlington keep on winning and they advanced in the Wheatley Cup by beating Morley Town 5-1. Think this will be a cracker and except Farsley to come out on top with in winning margin of one goal. It could even go to extra time and penalties.

Farsley Celtic Res v Stanningley OB

Due to the reconstruction of our Cup competitions this is one of the more interesting fixtures created. Farsley have had a golden two seasons but after promotion to division 1 have had a poor run of results. Stanningley lost in the final last season and they have had to reshuffle their pack and have yet to win a League fixture. Craig Farrand’s header put Farsley ahead. Shane Thompson and James Allen in turn nodded Stanningley into the lead but Joe Firth and a Craig Farrand slightly deflected free kick won the day. This will probably be close with Steve Wells still tucking the ball away for Celts Res whereas one of the Stanningley stars of the final, James Allen, is now with Beeston SA.

Huddersfield YMCA v Leeds Medics & Dentists III

Medics III would have been in the Hodgson this season but for the revamp and a cup they won on seven occasions. YMCA are having a good season in Div 1 after promotion but were surprisingly pipped last weekend by previously winless Grangefield OB 1-4. Leeds Medics are having a better season but still a long way to go before they become title challengers although unbeaten after four matches. Think this will be a real cup tie with two well matched sides but would expect YMCA to advance. YMCA lost to Horsforth last season in the prelim rd.

Wigton Moor v Horsforth St Margaret’s

Wigton Moor are playing well in the Premier Division without any startling results but there have been reports from their opponents emphasising how well they are playing. Horsforth are a team that has gone from strength to strength in the YAL and they are now Div 1’s leading club. A magnificent 3-2 win at Farsley Celtic Res last weekend underlines their strength and at the same time boosted their confidence ahead of the encounter this weekend. The reports on Wigton indicate than Wigton moor will win but think this is one of the game were a cup upset could occur.

Championship

Beeston St Anthony’s v Alwoodley Res
Beeston could capitalise on poor (of late) Alwoodley no idea what is going on this season with Alwoodley but think its just a matter of time before things start to kick in for them again so far however only scoring 2 goals so far this season, Beeston have only managed 8 themselves however have only conceeded 9. HOME WIN 3-1

Collingham Juniors v Morley Town AFC

Curretn top of the table clash and to break from the norm I am going with Morley on this one who on their day can trouble any team! How long can the collingham bubble last before it bursts? AWAY WIN 1-3

Mount St Mary’s v Leeds Medics & Dentists Res

Not much to seperate these two in the table only the knowledge that on their day Medics can put out a very strong team so its always difficult to bet against them - AWAY WIN 1-3

Wortley v Sire Academics
Wortley gained a good win last week against Alwoodley but aware it was a very under strength Alwoodley, Shire narrowly lost out to Stanley 1-0 from Premiership and had opportunities to take the game. Can shire step up to the plate this week and put in a performance against Wortley or Can Wortley show the 5-0 against Alwoodley was no fluke? Who knows..........

From Neville:-

Hancock Cup

A new and untried format. Interested to learn the initial views of the teams involved in the first round

Ealandians Res v Nth Leeds

Ealandians were losing finalists last year when they lost to Stanningley OB Res 4-0. They will relish another opportunity to appear in the final this season and have a tricky tie with Div 4 North Leeds whose season has gone all wrong. Nth Leeds playing better than their third to bottom suggests. Nor has Ealandians performed quite as well as we imagined they wold after promotion to Div 2. Home win.

FC Headingley v Trinity OB Res

FC Headingley has one point from 5 games but the team is now more settled as shown in their cup tie with Whitkirk last week. Trinity had a splendid victory in Div 4 and we can be assured they will continue to give at least 100% to their cuse. Last year lost to Ealandians Res 6-5 after winning 5-4 at the interval. Probable Trinity success.

Leeds Medics IV v Idle

Medics IV are previous winners of the Hodgson Cup. They were relegated last season to Div 3 but are formidable opponents when all players available. Idle are YAL newcomers and going well in Div 2. They are one of the favorites for this competition and are expected t come out on top and already many have found their free scoring attack difficult to contain.

Leeds Modernians v Sandal Wdrs

Mid table start for Mods this season but as Mods third team had an impressive record in the Hodgson Cup. Sandal Wdrs too have played reasonably well bt are without a Manager with key man Tom Hart currently out injured. Will be close and feel this will go to extra time and even penal;ties
