The sun comes out for Salts Res v Leeds City OB

Postby neville » Sat Feb 10, 2018 11:55 am

The sun is out in Shipley. 1130 hours and that news is official.

Last weekend was a fabulous one for the teams that played and thanks to the cooperation of all clubs in getting the details of their games on site so soon after the matches finished.

Three County Cup games today and let's hope these are all played. Great shame the eagerly awaited clash between Spurs and Horsforth has been postponed. I konw when I spoke with Horsfoth last week this was going to be the most testing encounter of their campaign.

If you can help by putting your results on the Forum it would be of great assistance but an email to me at buttdsl@nevbutt.demon.co.uk will be equally effective.

Enjoy your afternoon and the sun still shines.

Stanley Utd 5-1 Ealandians

Pretty even start but Stanley's finishing the difference with 1st half goals from Joe Childs and Dean Powell 2 each.

2nd half more of the same as they got one back from a penalty...... stand in keeper Markwell Neuer left no chance.

Game finally put to bed with a fine strike from skipper Ash Munton capping a fine display from us.

Thornesians 2 v 6 Leeds independent

We start a bit cagey and thorns keep possession well. We pick up and start playing. We take the lead when abs steps inside and hits a shot in the corner albeit via a deflection. 0-1. We quickly win the ball back and kwarme gets played in by abs and finishes well. 0-2. Thorns don't stop working and an attack sees them hit the bar. This ignites us again and we start playing some great football but nothing comes. Thorns win a corner and we don't clear the ball second cross comes in and there big striker heads in. 1-2. Straight from kick off abs chases a nothing ball and keeps it in then skips passed there defender and plays it to Marlon to slot in. 1-3. Again thorns come back and are unlucky not to score again. Marlon gets down the wing and plays seb in who cooly slots passed the keeper to make it 1-4. A throw in from seb and a tame shot from abs somehow creeps under the keeper 1-5. Ht. 2nd half starts and thorns start the better. A few niggles creep in but the ref deals with them well. Game goes a bit stale with both teams not really creating. A lapse in concentration from us allows there winger in who slots calmly passed trigger. 2-5. We pick up a bit and ryan shrugs off the defender to finish nicely in the corner 2-6. Ft. Would just like to add Referee Damian edge had a great game today too.

Beeston SA maintain fine form and win 3-2 against Shire

Postby neville » Sat Feb 10, 2018 5:05 pm

Championship

BSA 3-2 Shire

Another good win for Beeston which was fully deserved. Shire went ahead against the run of play with a free header at the back post. Jake Topp scored from close in to level matters on 22mins. Tony Garth then powered home a header before Luke Boden smashed a volley in at the far post 3-1.

Shire scored early in the second half to make it 3-2 after some poor Saints defending. The remainder of the half was a real battle with neither side able to breach each other’s back line.

Once again Beestons whole squad was tremendous.

Half time 0 - 1

Redcar eased into the semi finals after a very strong second half performance.

Idle 3 Dewsbury Rangers 1

dle hosted Dewsbury Rangers down at @GoalsBradford today on the 3G pitch. After yet another classic slow start, Idle found themselves 0-1 down following a poor header back to Strudwick in the Idle goal, the forward capitalised to give Dewsbury the lead. Idle once again had to come from behind and immediately began to start playing football although, the long ball seemed to be the only option at times. Idle were back in the game with two penalties, one following a handball from a shot and the second after some good footwork from Tom Simonett in the box saw the midfielder fouled. Jack Strudwick stepped up confidently to score box spot kicks. HT: 2-1. Idle then began to go through the gears in the second half showcasing some lovely attacking football through midfield and the final third. It was young Strudwick who scored the third to complete his hatrick after a flowing move saw Ryan Mitchell and Aaron Irving combine before Irving set up Strudwick who stroked home easily. And that was how the game ended. Another vital 3 points for Idle! FT: Idle 3-1 Dewsbury Rangers. #allidlearentwe under Idle FC

Medics Reserves 0 - 0 St Bedes

This was a good game played between two teams who looked to play on the deck, which I felt we edged and could have taken 3 points had we shown a bit more composure with the chances we created.

Both teams had one substitute between them but put on an excellent game, played in a hard but fair manner.

We started on the front foot and played really well and were on top for most of the first half, however we were always susceptible to the quick counter attacks from the home team. Tawheed Ahmed continued he's recent good form by having a shot that swerved just wide from the edge of the box and a couple of free kicks from the edge of the box which were well saved by the keeper. He also created an excellent opening for the skipper Stephen Drake who somehow managed to miss the goal from 6 yards, even though it was on his weaker foot. The home team had a couple of one on ones where the bounce seemed to favour them and we had to rely on Dan Lynas expertise in keeping them out. We had a strong shout for a penalty turned down when a handball went unpunished. Ian Horrocks also missed a chance from inside the box after good play by the midfield, I say missed but it was a good save by the keeper.

The lads were asked to keep playing as they are but be wary of the break and show a bit more composure in the final third.

The second half was a more even affair but the best chances fell to us and again we failed to convert. There was a period of play where the ball just did not want to go in, where firstly Horrocks had a shot blocked from 10 yards out, followed by the keeper saving from Neil Murray and finally Lewis Dean hitting a thunderbolt from the edge of the box which hit the underside of the crossbar. Unfortunately no goal line technology at Weetwood. Medics had they best chance when a mistake at the back led to the front lad going through one v one against Lynas and again our keeper came out on top with a wonderful save. With 15 to go we continued to push and tried a few different formation changes, the ball just didn't fall for us as another chance was cleared of the line when Gary Sunderland nodded it back across the 6 yard box and we couldn't force it over the line. The last kick of the game was young Tawheed having a wayward shot from well inside the box.

Medics will take a lot of points off other teams in this league but we were disappointed not to take all 3.

MOM Gareth Gilmartin was solid as anyone at right back today, no mistakes and used the ball wisely when he had it.

Bedes review of their firsts and seconds

Postby neville » Sat Feb 10, 2018 7:38 pm

Not many goals to report today.

Reserves sloppy as we lost 3-1
Anthony Reardon made it 3-1 after norristhorpe took a two goal half time lead with sloppy defending

A further sloppy goal early in the second half put the game to bed.

Firsts played well but couldn’t break down a solid medics defence.

Old Batelians result today

Shire 3rds 2 Batelians reserves 4 2 goals 1 in each half from Sam Chambers , 1 goal for Craig White , 1 goal for James Byrne .

Good battling performance from us today. first goal from sam Chambers a volley at the back post assisted by Jak Murphy .second goal scored by Craig White after a good pass inside by Ashley Marsh Craig with side foot passes ball into top corner when we went 2 nil up i didnt see or think shire could beat us .but then in beginning of second half shire went to 2 - 2 , we then had a couple of scares but we then got a goal for sam challenging with the shire keeper and scored think with his back or side at far post . shire pushing forward allowed us to break and James Byrne waited for an age to lob the keeper who was prob on his butt when James finally shot . on a different note i hope the shires lad who went off injured after a questionable challenge is ok ( ref took an age to give the free kick ) so i really think he didnt think it was that bad or didnt see it ouch

bring on DEWSBURY just need to get the game on a sat when i can get the best team out lol

Louis surtees penalty & Danny Lyons
Premier Division

Premier Division

Farsley Celtic Juniors 2 Leeds Medics 4

This was Medics tenth win out of ten matches and they have still only conceded 7 goals. The first half was dominated by Farsley Celtic but they failed to finish with the same sharpness as Medics in the second half. The goal was scored by Tom Smith who scored what was described as a fortuitous goal. Thus it was 0-1 Medics at half time. This became 0-2 when , to the clearly stated disappointment of Farsley coach Adam Thirsk, the smallest man on the field, Sverrir Kristennson, headed the second goal. The third goal was netted by Emmanuel Ntim after a good build up before Farsley reduced the arrears to 1-3. Tom Smith added his second goal and this was a screamer from 25 yards before an 85th minute Farsley free kick made the final score 4-2 to Medics who remain top with the 100%record from 10 games. Farsley are seventh with 14 points from 10 matches. Medics brought in three replacement players for those who have set off on their world travels. Louis Surtees (pen) and Danny Lyons for Farsley.

Morley Town AFC 1 Drighlington 6

Drig make it wiz league victories out of six. They were always in command and led 3-0 at half time. Morley rallied briefly early in the second half and reduced the deficit to two goals but a further three were added by Drighlington to make the final score 1-6. Drighlington are fourth with 21 points from eight matches and there are still many twists and turns to go in the race for the Championship title. Watching out for the name of the Morley score but goals fro Drighlington came from Sam Thorpe, Harvey Booth, Sam Thorpe, James Bradd, Harvey Booth and Andy Punter.

Stanley Utd 5 Ealandians 1

I am told that Ealandians had seven players missing today. Please see the news from Stanley Utd above and clearly Stanley Utd inflected a second heavy defeat in eight days on Ealandians lost 4-1 at Farsley last weekend. Ealandians are third with 23 points from 14 matches. Stanley are second with 28 points from 13 games. Clearly the encounter was a six pointer.

Championship

Leeds Medics Reserves 0 St. Bedes O.B. 0

St. Bedes must be wondering how they returned home without all 3 points this afternoon at Weetwood. Their poor away form continued against a Medics Reserve side & who were lucky not to concede on a couple of occasions. A confident & assured performance from referee James Elspey who controlled the game well throughout. The better side from the kick off, it wasn’t long before Taweed Ahmed’s free kick from distance brought about a decent stop from the Medics keeper. More chances for Ahmed and Ian Horrocks but the visitors were unable to capitalise on some poor defending at times. 33 minutes played & the best chance of the game so far. Taweed Ahmed laid the ball off to Steven Drake who, with time & space, just inside the box struck his shot just over the cross bar. I was reliably informed by Steve he was unable to hit the target as the ball fell to his ‘’wrong foot’’ !! At the other end the Medics shooting was lacking in quality ensuring a goal less 1st half. The second half, a similar story & the visitors continued to pressurise Medics. The first 15 minutes of good football, with inability to find the net. Midway through the half the hosts did improve a little. Much better in midfield area, Sam Miles created opportunities which his forwards were unable to take. St. Bedes did come close around the 80 minute mark, Horrocks back heel, Ahmeds shot & a combination of keeper & 3 defenders prevented a score. The ball rebounded to Lewis Dean who was extremely unlucky.... hitting the underside of the bar with a scorching 20 yard volley. Despite always looking the more likely to break the deadlock they failed to do so. Ahmed had a good last minute chance, but was wayward with his effort.

Matty Wilsn nets five after taking on the role as Calverley skipper

Postby neville » Sat Feb 10, 2018 11:15 pm

Championship

Beeston St Anthony’s 3 Shire Academics 2

Thanks for the report from Neil of Beeston. Close game but Beeston well on top in the opening half. Shire were frustrated by the Beeston SA defence in the second half. Beeston are eighth with 15 points from eight matches. Shire are 7th with nineteen points from ten games.

Calverley Utd 5 Mount St Mary’s 4

Calverley win after two league defeats. A strange goals scoring sequence with Calverley taking the lead through Matty Wilson and Mount St Mary’s drawing level before Matty Wilson added another four goals to make the score 5-1 to Calverley at the break. Not the worst of starts as skipper for Matty Wilson who has taken over from Ben Cook who broke his foot a couple f weeks ago. Mount St Mary’s retaliated and brought the score to 5-4 with nerves jangling towards the final whistle. Gildersome are top with 27 points from 12 games. After this win Calverley go second on 27 points as well but have played a game more than Spurs and have an inferior goal difference of -1. Mount St Mary’s are fourth with 20 points from 14 games. St Mary's claim their defence was inept. The team did respond late in the day with a Gorge Kovacs triple, incluidng two penalties and a goal from Matthewes Dalton.

Gildersome Spurs OB v Horsforth St Margaret’s - postponed

Leeds Medics & Dentists Res 0 St Bedes 0

Please see the super coverage of this game by Tahir and Simon Cookson. Medics Res are ninth with 14 points from 13 games. Bedes are third with twenty points from eleven matches.

Thornesians 2 Leeds Independent 6

Please see the Preecy report above. Thornesians scores were Harry Lee and man of the match Joe Cook – for the second week running. Thornesians are seconds to bottom with 10 points from 12 matches. Indy going great guns and must be in their highest Championship position ever in fifth slot with 20 points from 14 games.

Rothwell win again but Idle keep them in their sights - just

Postby neville » Sun Feb 11, 2018 6:59 am

Division 1

Garforth Rangers 3 Sky Blue 4

Sky Blue makes it four wins from 6 matches as Garforth slump to the bottom of the Div 1 table with only one win n their last six matches.. Sky blue recognised the immense promise of the Garforth team in a game played in a good spirit on a decent pitch. 0-1, 1-1, 1-2. 1-3 ht 2-3, 2-4, 3-4 and Garforth kept at bay during final minutes. Sky Blue is fifth. Scorers in order for Sky Blue: Steve Quinn, Alfie Thornton, Danny Black and Johnny Brad.

Idle 3 Dewsbury Rangers 1

Please see the Idle report who once again gave their visitors a head start by conceding an eagerly goal. After that Idle woke up and dominated the game. Idle has won four consecutive matches but Dewsbury without a win in four. Idle are now well placed to catch second placed Ealandians Res and even leaders Rothwell, who are 14 points ahead but Idle has five games in hand.

Leeds Medics & Dentists III 3 Collegians 2

This was an important victory for Medics III who remains bottom after their second victory of the season. Collegians have won only one game out of the last five and are now fourth with 20 points from 12 matches – disappointing after such a promising start. Hopefully more to come.

Rothwell 2 Alwoodley Res 1

Rothwell continue their drive to the Championship with a 2-1 success over an Alwoodley Res side that is battling hard to stave off relegation. Rothwell has 37 points from 15 games with Idle the only team that can catch them although Idle are 14 points behind with five games in hand, a tall order. More detail to come

Hard fought game yesterday with Alwoodley fielding a few first teamers we suspect which gave for a good game on a difficult pitch

We went an Andy Houlding goal down against the run of play early in the second half. Iain mcburney levelled the score with joe childerson getting the winner late on.

Good game.

Three home successes in Div 2. Trinity OB spoil Crusaders 100% record

Postby neville » Sun Feb 11, 2018 7:36 am

Division 2

East Ardsley Wdrs v Morley Town AFC Res - postponed
Fairbank Utd v Tyersal (postponed)

Sandal Wdrs 3 Huddersfield Amateur 1

Huddersfield Amateur are eighth but only two points ahead of basement outfit East Ardsley Wdrs in what appears to most of us as the tell tale sign of postponed games for bottom club East Ardsley – clearly a team suddenly in real trouble. Sandals’ young stars continue to improve and impress and they will be chuffed to win what was undoubtedly one of many six pointers to be decided at the wrong end of Div 3.

Trinity OB 3 Garforth Crusaders 0

I rang Garforth to see if the score was correct on Full Time but from the Trinity viewpoint a fabulous result but for Garforth, who were never in control, their first league defeat of the season. As Medics first stated last week it is bound to happen at some point. This was Crusaders first away defeat after succeeding inseven game on the road. Threatened by relegation for much of the campaign this is Trinity’s third victory in five matches and lifts them to 7th.

Woodkirk Valley 4 Farnley Sports 1

Woodkirk Valley move up to fourth after this super victory over ninth placed Farnley Sports. Woodkirk were always in command and led at half time 2-1 on a pitch that stood up to the usual battering well. Woodkirk Valley is three points behind but has a game in hand on Morley Town Res in third spot but Woodkirk is still some distance from leaders Garforth Crusades and second in the table Colton Athletic. A hat trick from James Tesseyman and a goal for Marcus Benstead with Josh Parry man of the match. James now has 12 goals from 14 games. Farnley Sports are seventh and as befits a mid-fable side has won three of its last six games.

Division 5

Huddersfield Amateur Res v North Leeds Res - postponed

Leeds City OB IV 2 Thornesians III 1/u]

Leeds City OB IV makes no mistake against basement club Thornes III but it could not have been by a tighter margin. Leeds City OB IV, tenth, has 12 points from 14 games but only five points from 12 games for Thornesians III. Shire IV and Mods Res separate the two teams. Pip Hayes for Thornesians III.

[u]Leeds Modernians Res 0 Old Centralians 7

Please see news above on this one.

St Bedes Res 1 Norristhorpe Res 3

Bedes review shown above with Norristhorpes report to come. Norristhorpe head the division and this was of course a game of vital importance with Bedes Res still on 28 pts and Norristhorpe on 34 but Bedes Res do have a game in hand. Tom Boocock was man of the match for Norristhorpe Res with Jack Brazer, Sam Everett and Luke Harrington on the score board.

Tyersal Res 2 Shire Acad IV 1

Fifth placed Tyersal had to work hard on an appalling pitch to win this game. They led 1-0 at half time thanks to Adrian Lowther who added a second after the break. The breakthrough for Shire came courtesy of Steve Hancockaround the 70th minute to make the score a shaky 2-1, and after that Tyersal held out to preserve the three points. Brian Hands was man of the match for Tyersal.

West End Park 1 Rothwell Res 4

West End’s poor run continues. Rothwell reserves are unbeaten and are on 24 points from 10matches. Rothwell are four points behind Bedes with three matches in hand. Again the significance of the loss by Bedes Res against Norristhorpe Res needs to be underlined. More data on its way led by the news Jonathan Asquith scored for WEP.

Division 4

Beeston Jnrs Res 1 Leeds City OB III 11

Occasionally we see the “Big Blip” from Beeston Juniors Res who could not cope with brilliant Leeds City OB III. City OB is third in Div 5 and is three points behind leaders Drighlington Res with two games in hand. Prospect are a point above City OB III but City OB have played a game more.

Dewsbury Ranges Res 1 Gildersome Spurs OB Res 7

Dewsbury Rangers are having a difficult season in terms of results and have only three points from 11 matches. Spurs played delightful football to gain that convincing 7-1 victory that takes them to fourth but some distance from leading clubs Drighlington Res, City OB III and Prospect. Goals today for the young Spurs Res teams came from Ben Bowman 3, Sam Innes 2, Lucas Scott and George Taylor, who joined the squad after the first team game was postponed.

Drighlington Res 2 Calverley Utd Res 1

Drighlington Res are top of Div 4 after a hard fought game with Calverley ahead 0-1 at the interval with their goal from Andy Wood. The tempo was dictated by Drig Res in the second half with goals from Declan Wilkinson and Danny Hill, but the margin of victory would have been much greater save for the brilliant display of the Calverley keeper Will Grace whose heroics impressed the hosts. Disappointingly for Calverley Will is not available every week

Middleton Park 3 Prospect 4

Good game with Middleton Park now eighth although most agree they deserve to be higher up the table. Their scores were Barnaby Foster and Danny Pennington 2. Middleton took an early lead and this was cancelled out by Nathan Bailey with a shot from 18 yards. Joe Keen added a second for Prospect after converting a lovely pass from Stephen Thwaites, but a 44th minute equaliser for Midd Park stung the visitors to make the half time score two goals each. After good work by Joe Keen Jordan Farrell put Prospect ahead 3-2 with a free kick from man of the match jo Keen gave Prospect a two goal cushion. Middleton retaliated and scored a brilliant third goal with a 25 yard curling free kick. Prospect are still undefeated and are second. They are two points behind Drig Res with three games in hand.

Morley Amateur 3 Thornesians Res 0

Ht 2-0. Morley are now 6th with games in hand of numerous teams above them but in terms of points gained Prospect and Drig Res are leading the way together with City OB III. . Thornes Res only on one point. Luke Arnett 25’, Richard Reynolds pen 40’ and James Langbridge in the 63rd hit the back of the net for Morley Amateur

Division 3

Horsforth St Margaret’s Res 3 Colton Athletic Res 1

Horsforth Res are top of Div 3 and lead by five points from Shire who have two games in hand. Shire Res and Horsforth Res meet next week in the League. Holidays from both clubs barred especially as Horsforth firsts play Otley firsts in the Wharfedale Cup Semi-final. There was an Interesting result yesterday. After Beeston beat Otley Town by a single goal last weekend this week it was the turn of Otley to draw attention to their result defeating West Yorks League Newsome 4-0. In the game on Saturday Jake Williams put Horsforth ahead from the spot and added a second to give St Margaret’s a 2-0 advantage. Horsforth surrendered a goal and left Colton one goal in arrears before an Adam Todd 25 yarder pinged Horsforth into a 3-1 unassailable lead.

Lepton Highlanders 3 Norristhorpe 1

Lepton moves up to fifth on the back of yet another home success. This was a disappointing result for Norristhorpe who drop to fourth but well out of sight of the leading clubs. More detail hopefully soon.

Morley Town III 1 Ealandians III 2

Ealandians III rise to third but realistically a difficult to bridge gap between them and the two promotion favourites. Morley collapse to sixth but need more info on this one,

North Leeds 2 Leeds Modernians 1

Mods struggle in ninth slot. They were beaten by North Leeds who move up to tenth. Colton Athletic Res are close to relegation and does need a run of favourable results. North Leeds had to win this game to keep in touch with the pack in mid-table, but they are currently third to bottom. More news most welcome.

Shire Academics Res 8 Leeds Medics & Dentists IV 0

Shire Academics Res are in superlative form, and eased past luckless Medics IV 8-0. Shire are well placed second in the table and are five pints behind leaders Horsforth SM Res with two games in hand. Shire scorers are shown in Shire round-up.

Trinity OB win their battle with Crusaders with Tom McLeish man of the match

Postby neville » Sun Feb 11, 2018 12:43 pm

Trinity OB 3 Garforth Crusaders 0

Great result today! Here’s hoping more to come!

Trinity deservedly beat the division leaders 3-0, with a solid display on a rough pitch. Great performances from all the team, and avenged the 6-1 defeat in the reverse fixture.
Chris Quinlan scored the opener early in the first half, followed not long after by assisting Steve Travers to make it 2-0 at half time. Nick Baxter held the ball up well and was a willing runner for us all game, and on another day would have converted a number of chances.
Garforth struggled to make any clear goalscoring attempts, but started the second half well by penning us in our own half. We defended stoutly and Baxter did eventually get a deserved goal late in the second half to seal it for Trinity, finishing from close range after a counter attack lead by centre half and man of the match, Tom McLeish.

West End Park 1 vs 4 Rothwell Reserves

https://www.facebook.com/RodillianRejects/posts/1777635452288443

Pitch was difficult yesterday and I wouldn't have complained had the game been called off. We struggled for numbers and could only put 12 out with yours truly having to cover in goal. West End took the lead with a good free kick from the edge of the area but we responded instantly with a Jason Helm penalty and a Sam Reeson goal for 2-1 at half time. West End continued to put us under pressure but we held firm and a break from a corner put Chris Gordon in who scored and then from another corner we cleared down the right and Sam Reeson's perfect ball found Helm unmarked in the area to cap the game off with his second.

In November when West End were top of the league, I said I would be happy if we could beat them at home and avoid defeat away. I think their season has gone downhill but they are still a difficult team to face and I'm more than happy with 6 points against them this season. I still think they have a major say in this season as some of the others still have to face them and it won't be an easy task. Their central midfielder who scored their goal spent most of the time whinging at the ref but when he shut up and got on with the game, he was very good and battled till the end.

Overall, it was just good to be back playing again. One game in ten weeks has been tough and we still have 14 games to play this season but yesterday could easily have gone the other way and wrecked our aims for promotion, we all worked hard and I'm sure Radox Ache Bubblebath sales in the West Yorkshire region will have gone up overnight. Next up we face the leaders Norristhorpe who won well at St Bedes yesterday. We look forward to the game with great interest and a defeat will pretty much put Norristhorpe as the champions in my eyes but a win and suddenly it's in our hands with the games in hand we have. Only issue for me is it's one of our players stag do in Amsterdam and six of us (including me) are away. What squad we field at the moment, I don't know but we struggled for numbers last week and came through so hopefully more of the same next week.

Man of the Match - Matt Swannell, was really good at the back yesterday alongside Chris Gordon.

Div5: St Bedes Res 1 Norristhorpe Res 3
Cracking game between the top two of Div 5, played in a competitive spirit but handshakes all round after the game on a great 4G pitch.

Pretty even opening exchanges as both teams seemed to struggle with the pace of the wet 4G pitch. Bedes going close with a fine cross just missed at the far post and Luke Harrington going close for us after good work down the left by Liam Ramsden. We opened the scoring mid way through the half after Sam Everett was found after good work by MOM Tom Boocock and he left the Bedes keeper in no man's land with a deft flick lobbing the stranded keeper. 0-1. We extended our lead when Jack Brazier headed home with a fantastic looped header leaving the keeper no chance. 0-2 HT.

Bedes came out fighting in the second period determined to get something out of the game but we caught them as a defensive mix up between their keeper and centre half left Luke Harrington to finish in an empty net 0-3. We made some changes and Scott Jackson lobbed the ball through for Boocock whose effort cannoned of the frame of the goal could have made it 4. But with 20 minutes remaining Bedes managed a corner and this was firmly headed home to make it 3-1 and give the home side some hope but it was too little to late and we saw out the win. 1-3 FT

WRCFA Trophy - Rd 5

Salts 3 Leeds City OB 2

The lads were gutted at the final whistle having been edged out narrowly 3-2.

A tale of gilt edged missed opportunities (two one on one’s and a missed rebound) meant we crashed out. We were the masters of our own downfall at the other end although the first Salts goal was a fine free kick from range.

Goal scorers were; Daniel McFarlane and Mark Dixon

Morley Amateur 3 Thornesians Res 0

Ht 2-0. Morley are now 6th with games in hand of numerous teams above them but in terms of points gained Prospect and Drig Res are leading the way together with City OB III. . Thornes Res only on one point. Luke Arnett 25’, Richard Reynolds pen 40’ and James Langbridge in the 63rd hit the back of the net for Morley Amateur

I made a mistake with the first goalscorer, i was in a rush to avoid another fine for forgetting. Ooops.

This week started off very tough for us, with our manager taking a little break away from football, we had to ask former manager Dave to step in and take charge of the team for a couple weeks. The game started and the main thing was to play football from the back. This game was played well by both sides for majority of the match and the pitch holding up well also. Then in the 25th minute a break from Joe Ainger on the left hand side passed into the middle to Rich Reynolds then to receive it back, then with only one thing on his mind from outside of the box he unleashed a shot that was only heading in one direction, the top left corner. The scenes from the side and from the pitch were of pure jubilation. Chances were then had from both sides with the Morley defence having to be sharp and clearing any efforts. In the 40th minute a break from Tom Snowden worked his way into the Thornes box only to be brought down. Richard Reynolds took the ball and put the ball down, he looked confident and that showed when he slotted the ball in. With Morley 2 goals to the good. We went into half time with a team talk that mentioned conceding goals from this position. In the second half the game was strong and again both sides were challenging. Then a pass from Adam Worrall was missed by the Thornes defender, to fall into the path of Tom Snowden who unusually missed the ball, the ball still moving fell into the path of back post specialist Jordan Langbridge who slotted it home. The game was nearly over there for excitement. Until the 90th minute when Thornes had a corner which fell into the box with no-one clearing it at first turned into a free-for-all before being cleared.

It was one of those weekends for Ealandians

Postby neville » Mon Feb 12, 2018 4:34 pm

Stanly Utd 5 Ealandians 1

County Challenge Trophy -

Honley 5 Ealandians Res 1

1st team scorer was Chris Wdowczyk a.k.a Doffers. Summary is Stanley were clinical in front of goal where as we missed a few chances.

2nd team lost 5-1 in the county cup against Honely. 20 minutes in the 1st half cost us the game, conceding 4 times with Honley very good on the counter attack and our passing just not to the usual standards. 2nd half was much better and should have got the scoreline closer but when you get to the last 16 and put in a 1st half like we did then you don't deserve to go through. Good luck to Honley who worked hard all game. Goalscorer for us Carlton Balmer.

Div 5

Leeds City 2 Thornesians 1

I said in my midweek prediction this game would come down to availability and unfortunately for us we were missing a few and it showed in the opening exchanges as we struggled to settle. Once we found our footing we played some good football but some bad marking gifted Leeds a soft goal. However we weren’t behind for long as a quick transition from back to front put “Pip” Hayes through for his 14th goal of the season. The message for the second half was we were good enough to win the game but had to start matching Leeds City’s work rate as they were putting a good shift in. Leeds were the better team in the 2nd half as they were the first to most 50/50s and created a lot of chances but were denied by a mixture of poor finishing and good defending. The winning goal predictably was down to more bad marking as our makeshift right hand side failed to communicate with each other and allowed the City forwards who were queuing up at the far post to finish. We pushed for an equaliser and almost got one as Pip had a clear header at the far post but his effort went down into the ground instead of hitting the back of the net and that was that.

The game was an enjoyable contest we were just frustrated not to get anything out of it and as I said previously had we had a full compliment of players the result may have been different. Leeds deserved the win though.
