Hodgson Cup Final

Leeds City OB III v Middleton Park

WRCFA, Fleet Lane, Woodlesford

7.30 pm kick off

This is the 26th Hodgson Cup in a tournament that dates back to1956/57 in the happy or unhappy days of colleges, NALGO and numerous other Old Boys teams. A fresh venue tonight for one of our finals and also Middleton Park are involved in a final for the first time if my memory serves me well. Both teams are in Div 4 in a competition designed for teams in Division 4 and Division 5. Leeds City OB III has held the cup up high previously and that was in season2007/08 when they beat Leeds Medics & Dentist III 4-1 after a penalty competition (shoot out). Leeds City OB III are having a brilliant season and are top of Division 4. Middleton are quickly regaining confidence after some disappointing times. To get to the final Middleton have beaten, Huddersfield Amateur Res, Centralians, Rothwell Res (4-1) and Thornes Res. Leeds City OB III has succeeded against St Bedes Res, Morley Amat (4-2), Spurs OB Res and Batelians Res. This should be a superb final with two in form teams. Hope everyone enjoys the game in what is a much improved competent now that it is based on teams playing in a Divisional Cup that gives each team a better chance of progression

Leeds Senior Cup Final

Kick Off 1930 hrs

Leeds Medics & Dentists v Carlton Athletic

Medics have at last reached the Leeds Senior Cup final as they try and emulate Alwoodley who won this competition in 2009/10 when defeaing Beeston SA. This was the one and only time that the Senior Cup has been won by a YAL combo but we can point to a number of teams that have appeared inthe semi-finals and they include Medics on more than one occasion, Yorkshire Bank, Stanningley OB and Trniity OB. Always a difficult cup to win and this tournament requires both skill, courage and physical fitness, and Medics have these qualites, as do Carlton with the latter having won this cup more than once. To reach the final Carlton has defeated East Ebd Park 4-2, Headingley AFC 0-4 and Beestons SA 2-3 on pens after a 3-3 scoreline after 90 minutes. Medics have thrived on having one extra tie. They beat St Nicholas 2-0, Wortley 0-2, Real Moor 0-3 and Robin Hood Ath 2-3. In League terms Carlton has four games in hand on leaders Leeds City whilst Medics are second after a fautless spell up to March from which time they have faltered but are still second in a strong Premiership. Never underestimate Carlton Ath and the skills exhibited by Medics agasint Robin Hood ni the previous round will serve Medics in good stead tonight.

"An historic result - and performance - has taken our Club into this prestigious Final for the first time. Huge credit to the players after so many previous games in April, for rising to the challenge, dredging up a collective will, allied to great team organisation and the ability to hurt the opposition with some clinical finishing.

The first half was frenetic and surprisingly open for a semifinal, and demonstrated our offensive threat, and also our resilience to bounce back from to 1-2 down to lead 3-2 at the interval."
